VIKING BOAT BURNING AND CLOGGSTOCKING

On Tuesday night we will be doing one of our most bizarre gigs ever - a traditional Viking Boat Burning Ceremony called Up Helly Aa.

This will take place at Oakfield Farm at Stanley Common in Derbyshire.

Our first proper festival of the year will then be Cloggstock at Alfreton over Easter.

In order to ward to evil spirits away and usher in warmer weather for the new year we celebrate this historic tradition on the last Tuesday of January with a boat burning ceremony and a banquet of warm comforting food when you need it most and a good excuse for another party at Oakfield Farm! Based on the Viking traditions of the Shetlanders my infamous pyrotechnic display is once again open to friends and family and will help keep you warm.... and on edge on a typically cold and wet January night. So your all invited to help us ward of the evil frost giants that enslaved our ancestors all those centuries ago and continue this tradition by inviting the mighty Thor to return with a clap of Thunder and defeat the frost giants once more. £10 including food and 1 drink £5 for children including food and 1 drink Verbal Warning are booked and coming to play at the event! Tuesdays itinerary is as follows:

6 to 6.30pm arrivals, supper cider and ale options/hot drinks.

7pm Event introduction and the history of Up Helly Aa

7.15-7.30 Boat burning ceremony begins with Viking themed music thanks to our local DJ.

8pm-10pm Live music from Verbal Warning with half hour interval.

Please arrive between 6 and 6.45pm to make sure you get your supper in time for the ceremony.If possible we would encourage you to car share as our Oakfield car park only has the capacity to hold up to 30 vehicles (first come first serve).

If you arrive and it’s full please park somewhere on the road, safe, legal and responsibly.During the event the shop will be open for snacks and refreshments.

There will be Beer and Cider available throughout the event.Vegetarian/Vegan options are available. If there are any additional requirements for example Gluten free please contact Oakfield via messenger
